why i teach:
I am a musician, creative, and educator at heart and I am never happier than when those three things combine, as they do so beautifully in teaching music. I believe music is a powerful tool of self-expression and I love sharing that gift with students.
how I teach:
I desire to help foster a student’s love of music, to help them acquire the technical skills and knowledge to engage in music, and to encourage their growth in the ways that they naturally express themselves musically. I do not seek to create cookie-cutter pianists, but rather to collaborate with each student as an individual with creativity and musicality of their own. Warning: lesson content and end result may (and hopefully will) look different for everyone!
credentials:
I have a BMus in Piano Performance and have been teaching instrumental and choral music to children from age 2 to 18 in various capacities for the past 11 years first in the Chicago area and now in the Seattle area. I am a member of the Dalcroze Society of America and attend yearly workshops and trainings in the Dalcroze method. I also have my Level 2 Kodaly certification.
other current music pursuits:
I conduct a fantastic group of women in the Emerald City Women’s Chorus.
On a personal note:
While music education is a huge part of my passion and life, I’ve got a few other loves:
I run a portrait photography studio here in Seattle with my husband. Check us out at:
Additionally, I consider myself an excellent vegetarian cook, a mostly-committed bike commuter, a serious multi-tasker, and a mom to two full-of-life children under 5.
