August is here and in Seattle, summer is in its prime. Today, I’m celebrating the camping season with a song about bears. And, since it’s the first week of the month, I’m sharing a book about bears too! I love the first week of the month because I get to share two things!

Stompy The Bear
Caspar Babypants scores again with this kid-proven number. The music changes a few times throughout this song, so I use it for dancing—to encourage sensitive listening. I ask the kids to match their body movements to the sound of the music. But, it’s also great for sitting and listening, singing along, and just general silliness.
There are also a number of colors mentioned throughout this song, so it’s really fun for identifying colors on people’s clothing or around the room.

The Bear Went Over the Mountain
This classic children’s song gets a fresh twist in this book by Iza Trapani. Trapani is most famous for her version of The Itsy Bitsy Spider
The bear uses all its senses and does so much more than just go over the mountain. I have a feeling you’re going to love it.
If you’re unfamiliar with the song, check it out here on Spotify. There are plenty of versions, but this is one I found that was pretty similar to the one in the book.
