I’ve been singing lots of holiday songs with my students so far this December. And, this one is always a blast.

The Reindeer Pokey

I usually preface this song by asking my students what animal helps Santa drive his sleigh. This year, I’ve been keeping track of some of my favorite suggestions.

A Toad (this was after about 5 seconds of full silence while the whole class tried to figure out what I could possibly be talking about)
T-rex
Shark
(at this point, they’re just throwing out their favorite animals)
Cow

Disclaimer: these came from my younger students who might not actually remember their last Christmas. Likely next year, they’ll know the right answer right away!

The Reindeer Pokey is exactly like the Hokey Pokey, but you get to pretend to be a reindeer with reindeer body parts.

You put your right hoof in
You pull your right hoof out
You put your right hoof in
And you shake it all about
You do the Reindeer Pokey
And you turn yourself around
That’s what it’s all about.

Repeat using all the Reindeer body parts you can think of! I use these:

Your left hoof
Your fluffy tail
Your antlers
Your red nose

That’s what it’s all about!

Have a great week, all!
